Summary:
As the 9 th Legion of GDS, the Intelligence Legion acts as the intel and counter-intel force of GDS.
Unlike the other legions, there is not much if anything that can be disclosed regarding the operations or founding of the 9 th legion. Everything from their roles to their locations are classified at the highest levels, as discussion of our intelligence force in any meaningful capacity only serves to compromise the integrity of their work.
However, what can be discussed is the impetus behind their formation as it greatly differs from that of the other legions. Unlike other legions, the 9 th legion was not formed due to an expansion in operations or unmet contractual needs from a client.
The Intelligence Legion was formed due to a fatal mistake which claimed the lives of far too many legionnaires.
Not long after the Aeronautical Legion was formed, GDS was approached by
another PMC to take part in a joint operation. This PMC, Torch Bearer
Associates, requested that GDS provide a number of personnel to assist with
a large-scale convoy that was delivering relief supplies to an active
warzone. As we had no reason to reject such an offer, we accepted the
contract and deployed three squadrons from the Security Legion to assist
with convoy security. We had intelligence personnel, yet it could only do
so much with so few personnel to cover the entirety of our operations at
that time.
This was one of our greatest failures.
With the authorization of those orders, we unknowingly sent those
legionnaires to their deaths.
Halfway through the planned route, Torch Bearer Associates executed an
overwhelming ambush on the convoy and killed our legionnaires, their own
personnel, and every civilian worker in the convoy as part of a false flag
operation to destabilize GDS. We discovered this only after the fact, and
while the problem of Torch Bearer Associates was solved shortly afterwards,
it still wasn’t going to bring those legionnaires back to life.
Those men and women would never return home, would never see their families
again, would never call their friends to ask how their day had been. All of
this was our failing, and thus our responsibility to ensure it never
happened again.
All operations, contracts, and deployments were put on immediate hold after
the incident with Torch Bearer Associates. During this time all
legionnaires either took extra training, visited their families, or just
stayed on base until the all clear was given to resume operations. While
many nations and clients protested this inactivity, the Administrative
Legion handled the situation and balanced the accounts to keep bills paid
and paychecks arriving until five months after the pause in operations was
announced.
It was then that the Intelligence Legion was formed, with the other legions
suddenly finding themselves in the company of legionnaires wearing overcoats
and LOS sleeve patterns they’d never seen before.
Operations resumed after this stretch of inactivity, with the new
Intelligence Legion working to fully vet any and all contracts, clients,
and deployments before any legionnaires are assigned to the job. Further,
the Intelligence Legion has protected GDS from infiltration by numerous
agencies and governments, often with these adversaries never realizing
they’ve been given false or misleading information that only leads towards
dead ends and disastrous conclusions.
I have been authorized to give an example of this counterintelligence work,
albeit in a highly abstracted manner.
In one instance, government agents had “exfiltrated” data from GDS
regarding the creation of a special explosive compound. When this data was
brought back to the agency’s lab for replication, their staff scientists
quickly shut down the entire operation upon reviewing the data that had
been acquired.
Should they have attempted to use that information in the fabrication of the
compound it would have exploded halfway through the process, taking out the
lab and any personnel within it.
Outside of this summary, not much else can be disclosed regarding the 9 th legion’s history, work, or methodology. In terms of contracts, the Intelligence Legion provides tailored intel feeds to federal clients and assists law enforcement agencies in areas such as missing persons, murder, manhunts, and kidnapping.
No special operations groups within the Intelligence Legion are declassified, and as such will not be discussed.
While you can reference Tome for further information regarding the two unclassified Intelligence Legion LOS codes, there isn’t much else available for general personnel to read. For those who have the clearance and need to know further information, they will already have the means to access those records.
