Missile Launchers
Missile systems are for the occasion when we need to turn someone or something into dust from both an extreme range and with extreme precision.
The downside to this is that missiles are really goddamnexpensive, and so aren't as readily available as rockets or handheld grenades. They have their place, but we don't exactly throw these around like candy when we've got rockets for that purpose.
Missile systems excel when it comes to dealing with bases, cities, or large amounts of heavy enemy armor from a long loooooong ways away. While some rifles are anti-armor in design, it doesn't fit the scenario of squaring up against an entire battalion of tanks (or swarms of creatures with really tough hides). A rocket weapon system fits that bill, but if the target is close enough for unguided rocket strikes, they're close enough to open fire on your ass with artillery. That's where missiles come in, delivering precise, extreme levels of violence from a far distance, good for any occasion.
Another difference between missiles and rockets is payload. Oh Christ do we
make that cost count when it comes down to it.
A high end rocket will take out a number of city blocks.
A high end missile will glass an entire valley, the surrounding hills,
probably the mountains and the atmosphere above the blast zone.
And in the Celestial Throne, a REALLY high end missile will get us a knock
on the door from a few dozen extremely pissed off godraughts wondering why
half a planet has suddenly decided to take on a new life as ash floating in
space.
If you’ve ever heard the term “alpha strike” then missiles fit that
bill perfectly.
There have been times we’ve used missiles so precise it killed a single
target in a car, who was sitting in the passenger seat, while they were
moving. The driver walked away with bruises and scorched hair. Other times,
we’ve used them to wipe entire airfields, ammo depots, and military bases
off the face of the planet with a single strike. When we break them out, we
mean goddamn business.
To that end, we’ve got the following classes of missiles in our arsenal:
Firestorm |
Heaviest class, found only on Glacier and within specific fortresses. |
Conflagration |
Elite class, used by Wyroks, base defenses, artillery systems, aircraft and Glacier. |
Inferno |
High end class, used by spec ops, aircraft, base defenses, and drones. |
Wildfire |
Professional class, used by spec ops, Heavy Vanguards, aircraft and drones. |
Incinerator |
Baseline class, used by legionnaires, drones and Heavy Vanguards. |
